The picturesque little church of St. Cyprian is located outside the small settlement of Taktikopolis, close to the narrow strip of land that joins Methana with the Peloponnese. We were headed to Methana when I first noticed this quaint blue and white building, and we didn’t stop to see it. I was constantly thinking about it, for whatever reason, the entire day we spent exploring the volcanic peninsula. Its form, the surrounding countryside, its serenity, and the blue-white colours just kept coming back to me. I had to pay a visit on my way back.
The Peloponnese is rich of undiscovered treasures and surprises, such as hidden byzantine temples, centuries-old olive trees, secluded villages surrounded by gorgeous landscapes, deserted towers in the heart of the mountains, and the remains of historic bridges. This is one of the reasons I adore the region so much. This church was no exception; it was a magical place. I just wanted to stand there and take in the astonishing vista from its whitewashed terrace without even wanting to snap pictures. Tranquillity and endless blue…
Speaking of surprises, there was a small grocery stall adjacent to the church door with locally produced goods that you could purchase for a small donation.
